My parents and little sister Catherine came to visit last week. It was really fun, but I am just now feeling rested enough to post about it! Benjamin decided to wake up every morning at 5:30, so we were all trying to function on lack of sleep. We went out on the boat, had a lot of BBQ, made homemade donuts, (it's a Kansas thing) and spent a lot of time alternately reading, and playing with Benjamin. It was nice to have my sister here, and per our yearly tradition, she took some old clothes off my hands. Every time I see Catherine her outfits look vaguely familiar, and then I realize it's because she's wearing all my stuff!
One funny thing from their visit is that my mom was out looking at the vegetable garden, and then walked into my kitchen and calmly said, "has Joel ever seen a snake in the garden? Because I just saw a pretty big one." Ok, everyone who knows my mom could agree that she can be pretty melodramatic (I'm sorry mom, but it's true.) If I had seen the snake, I would have FREAKED OUT! As it was, I was like, "OMG! Where is it! Kill it! Kill it!" It's just funny that she was so unperturbed. I guess she channeled her Kansas farm girl upbringing during this instance. She even went back out with Joel to see Ladybird hunt it down. I stayed inside. I don't want to see a snake!
I took a few pictures from the trip, but none that are really worth anything. I don't know what my problem is. I own a camera, but I never use it. I aspire to be one of those people who carry their camera with them everywhere and take fabulous candid shots at every event, but I don't think I will ever be that person. Basically, what I'm saying is, my parents were here for a week and I took almost zero pictures. Bad mom.
The one time we went to the beach, we were there about 15 minutes and got rained out. You can see how overcast it is in the picture.
On the boat at the river on Memorial Day. Very fun and great weather.
Catherine and Ben. I promise he was happy, he just didn't look like it in this picture.
You can't see it, but my dad is reading. Benjamin disagreed with this choice of entertainment.

Yikes. I hope nobody looks at that knot in the background of Catherine's picture.
And yes, it did come loose at an inopportune time. I've learned my lesson.
What a fun family visit! And that is too funny about your mom and the snake. I hope you aren't every out there gardening when one decides to join you!
I did get a lot of compliments on your long-sleeved blue shirt today.
Thanks again!
